The crossover giant Chevrolet Traverse is a front- or all-wheel drive car with a seven- or eight-seat cabin layout, which is positioned by the company itself as a "mid-size SUV" (but in fact, it is even larger than such a "giant" as "Tahoe" in size).

After nine years of presence in the market, it has experienced a generational change - noting this in January 2017 on the stage of the international auto shows in Detroit.

Compared to its predecessor, this off-road vehicle "felt better", but slightly enlarged in size, received a spectacular design and a bunch of modern "gadgets", and also acquired modernized equipment.

One of the strengths of the second generation Traverse is its appearance. If the previous model strongly resembled a "raised minivan", now on the outside it is a full-fledged SUV, imitating the "senior" Chevrolet SUVs: a huge grill grille, aggressively designed lighting equipment, flat sidewalls with "square" wheel arches and powerful roof struts and embossed bumpers with two "curly" exhaust pipes in the rear.

The "second" Chevrolet Traverse is 5189 mm long, 1795 mm high and 1996 mm wide (despite such impressive dimensions, as already noted, the Americans consider their "brainchild" - mid-size). The wheelbase of the car extends to 3071 mm, and its ground clearance is about ~ 200 mm.

The curb weight in the basic version does not exceed 1978 kg (the maximum allowable weight is 2794 kg), and in the "3.6 4 × 4" version it does not exceed 2070 kg (the maximum is 2800 kg).

The interior of the giant crossover is designed in the spirit of modern Chevrolet models - soft lines prevail in it, and the focus is on the seven- or eight-inch (depending on the configuration) display of the MyLink multimedia complex, which hides a volumetric secret behind it.

In addition to the touchscreen, the center console contains a stylish "remote control" of the climate system, and the driver's workplace is represented by a neat multi-steering wheel with a four-spoke design and modern "instrumentation" that combines dial dials with a color screen of the on-board computer.

Inside the Chevrolet Traverse of the second incarnation, it can accommodate up to eight people - it all depends on the layout of the middle row: a three-seater sofa or two individual "captain's" chairs.

In the front part of the cabin there are comfortable seats with a wide range of adjustments, but poorly developed sidewalls, and the "gallery" is able to accommodate three adult passengers without any problems.

Even with a seven / eight-seat layout, an impressive 651-liter luggage compartment remains (according to the American EPA method). The maximum "hold" of an off-road vehicle holds 2789 liters of luggage, while the folded second and third rows of seats form an almost flat cargo area.

For the "second" Chevrolet Traverse, there are two gasoline units:

  • The first engine is a 3.6-liter six-cylinder "aspirated" with a V-configuration, 32-valve timing, direct "power supply" and variable valve timing, generating 310 horsepower (at 6800 rpm) and 360 Nm of torque (at 2800 rpm).
  • An alternative to it is a 2.0-liter "four" with a turbocharger, direct fuel injection, a timing belt with 16 valves and variable valve timing technology, the potential of which is 258 "stallions" (at 5500 rpm) and 400 Nm of torque ( at 3000 rpm).

Both motors work in conjunction with a 9-speed hydromechanical "automatic" Hydra-Matic 9T50 and a front-wheel drive transmission, supplemented by the Traction Mode Select system, which changes the algorithm of the traction control electronics.

"Six", as an option, can be equipped with the simplest multi-plate clutch that controls the transfer of torque to the rear axle, and the "luxury" version "High Country" is available with GKN all-wheel drive with another clutch located in the rear axle and blocking the cross-axle differential.

In Russia, the American SUV is offered only with a V6 engine and a 4 × 4 wheel arrangement: it accelerates from standstill to 100 km / h after 6.9 seconds, and accelerates to a maximum of 210 km / h; in combined conditions, it consumes ~ 10 liters of fuel for every "hundred" run (13.8 in the city or 9.4 on the highway), the tank capacity is 73 liters and does not disdain AI-92.

The second generation Traverse is built on the C1XX global bogie and uses high-strength steels in its body structure.

"In a circle" the car is equipped with an independent running gear: the front axle is equipped with MacPherson struts, and the rear axle is equipped with a five-link system.

By default, the crossover is fitted with a progressive electric power assisted rack and pinion steering. All wheels of the American "giant" are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle) with ABS, BA, EBD and other modern systems.

The second "release" of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse is delivered to the Russian market in three equipment options - "LE", "LT" and "Premier".

  • The car in the starting configuration costs a minimum of 2,990,000 rubles, and its arsenal includes: seven airbags, bi-xenon headlights, a multimedia complex, 17-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, a rear-view camera, keyless entry and remote engine start, two "captain's" seats in the second row, electric "handbrake", cruise control, heated front seats and much more.
  • "Intermediate" version is sold at a price of 3,149,000 rubles, and its features are: a three-seater sofa in the middle row, leather interior trim, three-zone "climate", all-round cameras, electric front seats and a fifth door, 18-inch wheel disks, a Bose audio system with ten speakers, a MyLink media center with an 8-inch screen, a blind spot monitoring system and a bunch of other "gadgets".
  • You can't buy a "top" modification cheaper than 3,449,000 rubles, but it can boast: heated seats in the first two rows, an automatic braking system at a speed of 8 to 80 km / h, heated steering wheel, perforated leather in the decoration, a lane keeping assistant and others "Bells and whistles".
