The second-generation station wagon was first presented in 2003 at the Barcelona Auto Show, almost a year after the premiere of the hatchback bodywork. To achieve high control accuracy, the chassis of the car has been modified taking into account the "heavier" rear part of the body.

Particular attention has been paid to adjusting the stiffness of the shock absorbers, suspension travel and steering calibration. The Megan 2 station wagon, like the sedan version, is equipped with ABS (emergency braking assistance system (AFU) and electronic brake force distribution (EBD) with automatic alarm activation, tire pressure monitoring system).

And the exterior of the Renault Megane II station wagon deserves special attention. Among the "daring relatives" in the bodies of the hatchback and sedan, the estate (Estate) looks really esthete - very harmonious. The dynamics and liveliness of his character are perfectly combined with his family versatility and practicality.

Comfortable seats in the spacious cabin of the "universal model" are a real paradise for passengers - there is enough space both along and across. And if you fold the back of the back sofa (60:40), then the already roomy 520-liter Estate trunk with a low loading area and wide opening will increase to 1600 liters. By the way, a decent ground clearance allows this station wagon to easily overcome curbs, even in a loaded state.

Climate and cruise control, full power accessories, many containers for small items and cup holders - all in a plus for the thoughtful interior of the Renault Megane II station wagon. The only thing that can be confusing is the modesty of the interior trim.

With the general part of the station wagon, everything is simple - at the end of sales, only one option is offered - this is a 1.6-liter 16-valve gasoline engine with a capacity of 110 hp. This engine fully justifies itself.
But if you choose "automatic", then this sluggish 4-speed gearbox can spoil the impression of the car as a whole. Reactions to pressing the gas pedal, changing gears during intensive acceleration and when switching from manual to automatic mode are belated, and when braking smoothly, the “automatic”, unexpectedly for the driver, automatically pushes a lower gear.

Excellent smoothness of the station wagon Renault Megan 2 allows you to overcome "speed bumps" practically without loss of speed. But intensive maneuvering can turn into unpleasant rolls and, as a result, body swing, threatening to develop into a skid. The stabilization system is not provided. In addition, the reactions of the Megane II station wagon to active steering wheel rotations are blurred: the electric booster cannot cope with such a load.

As a result, it is quite suitable for the role of a family car (spacious and ergonomic interior, comfortable seats and controls). But this car cannot boast of either dynamism or perfected handling. In addition, a driver who prefers active driving is unlikely to like rolls in corners, swing when maneuvering, poor steering information and the operation of the "automatic".
