Subcompact sedan Toyota Etios with the in-plant designation "NGK15", which became the most affordable model in the palette of the Japanese automaker, made its official debut in January 2010 at the New Delhi Auto Show, albeit only as a concept car, and by the end of the year entered mass production.

In March 2013, the four-door underwent a small update, which was limited to light visual improvements, and then went through this procedure again in November 2014.

The next batch of improvements went to the car in April 2016, but this time the main emphasis was on the technical "stuffing". But the exterior design was noticeably updated for 2017.

Outside, the Toyota Etios looks very nice and modern, but the budget essence in its appearance can be traced immediately. The four-door body of the car with classic three-volume outlines demonstrates stylish lighting technology, "curly" bumpers and expressive sidewalls, due to which it evokes extremely positive emotions.

Sedan "Etios" acts in the community of subcompact cars and has 4369 mm in length, 1695 mm in width and 1510 mm in height. The front wheels of the "Japanese" are removed from the rear axle at a distance of 2550 mm, and the clearance under its "belly" is a decent 170 mm.

The interior of Toyota Etios in a three-volume body, designed in the "family" style of the Japanese brand, attracts attention with a "complex" front panel with a modern three-spoke steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster in the center and a distinctive dashboard, "flaunting" a color screen of the multimedia system and three "spinners" climatic complex. The decoration of the four-door is "well cut and tightly sewn", but exclusively from budget finishing materials.

Salon "Etiosa" is designed to accommodate five people, but the back sofa, due to the limited amount of free space, is optimal only for two people. The front seats of the sedan are characterized by a free-flowing profile with sluggish sidewalls, but with sufficient adjustments.

The luggage compartment of the Toyota Etios is one of the most capacious in the B-class - in the "stowed" form, it can hold 592 liters of luggage at once. In a niche under the raised floor near the car, there is a full-fledged "spare wheel" and the necessary tool.

Specifications. Depending on the sales market, Etios is provided with three in-line four-cylinder engines operating in combination with a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission and a front-wheel drive transmission (in some countries, a 4-band automatic is offered as an option).

  • The initial petrol versions of the four-door have in their arsenal a 16-valve "aspirated" 1.3 liters (1329 cubic centimeters) with multipoint injection and a variable valve timing system (Dual VVT-i), which produces 88 "mares" at 5600 rpm and 123 Nm of peak thrust at 4000 rpm. On ethanol (in "dual-fuel form" it is available in Brazil), the engine potential increases to 98 forces and 128 Nm.
  • The engine compartment of more "advanced" modifications houses an atmospheric petrol unit with a volume of 1.5 liters (1496 cubic centimeters), equipped with a DOHC timing belt with 16 valves and distributed injection, the performance of which has 102 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm. When working on ethanol, the "four" releases 5 "stallions" and 4 Nm more into the light.
  • Diesel versions are equipped with a 1.4-liter (1364 cubic centimeters) engine with direct "power", 8-valve structure and turbocharging, generating 68 "horses" at 3800 rpm and 170 Nm of peak potential at 1800-2400 rpm.

At the heart of the Toyota Etios sedan is a front-wheel drive bogie called the Toyota EFC platform, featuring an independent suspension with MacPherson struts and a lateral stabilizer at the front and a semi-independent system with a torsion bar at the rear.
Already standard equipment includes a rack and pinion steering center with electric power assistance. The four-door has ventilated disc brakes on the front axle and drum devices on the rear, which are complemented by ABS and EBD.

Options and prices. Etios is not officially supplied to the Russian market, but in Brazil, prices for a sedan in 2016-2017 start at 49,560 local reais (~ 973 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate). Nominally, the car is equipped with a pair of airbags, air conditioning, ABS with EBD, power windows, audio preparation, 14-inch wheel disks, a digital instrument cluster, an immobilizer, an on-board computer and some other equipment.
The "top" version is estimated at 67,250 reais (~ 1.32 million rubles) additionally "flaunts" fog lights, "music" with two speakers, alloy wheels, a multimedia system with a touchscreen and other "chips".
