Datsun Cross is a front-wheel drive crossover of a subcompact category, which combines compact dimensions, a seven-seater saloon and good technical "stuffing" ... Its main target audience is family people with a low level of income who want to get a "multifunctional car designed for various purposes" ...
The official premiere of the first SUV in the history of this Japanese machine builder took place in mid-January 2018, at a special show in Indonesia - the five-door under the ingenious name Cross "grew" from the GO + compact van and the GO-cross concept (presented to the world community in October 2015) ...
Serial production of the car, which received a number of features not typical for its segment, began a few weeks after its debut at the Indonesian plant of Nissan.
Outside, the Datsun Cross can boast of a moderately aggressive, pretty and modern design, which is given a bit of solidity by the high ground clearance and "armor" around the perimeter of the body made of unpainted plastic.
A daring front end with an insolent look of complex headlights, a honeycomb "hexagon" of a radiator grille and a raised bumper, a harmonious silhouette with a smoothly sloping roof and appropriate "splashes" on the sidewalls, frying stern with stylish lamps and a massive bumper - despite its "budget essence" looks the car is not bad from all angles.
In terms of dimensions, "Cross" belongs to the segment of subcompact crossovers: it is 3995 mm long, does not exceed 1670 mm in width, and reaches 1560 mm in height. The wheelbase fits at a five-door in 2450 mm, and its ground clearance is very solid 200 mm.
The spirit of minimalism hovers in the Datsun Cross cabin - on the center console you can contemplate only a 6.75-inch monitor of the infotainment and information system and a couple of simple climate controllers without a heater (in basic configurations, everything is even simpler).
The driver's workplace is equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel and an extremely laconic instrument cluster with two arrow dials and a small monochrome screen of the board computer.
The inside of the car is dominated by cheap plastics, slightly "refined" with carbon-imitating inserts.
The "apartments" of the crossover have a seven-seater layout, but only children can sit more or less comfortably in the "gallery". The first two rows have amorphous seats, although there is enough free space here even for five adults.
How large the luggage compartment of the "Cross" is - has not yet been reported. But it is obvious that if there are seven seats in the "hold" of the car, it will not be able to "swallow" even a few sports bags.
Under the hood of the Datsun Cross is a three-cylinder petrol "aspirated" with a working volume of 1.2 liters (1198 cubic centimeters) with a distributed injection system and a 12-valve timing, which is combined with a 5-speed "manual" gearbox or a continuously variable X-Tronic variator (and no alternative front-wheel drive transmission with limited slip differential):
- In the first case, the engine produces 68 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 104 Nm of torque at 4000-44000 rpm.
- And in the second - 78 hp. at 5000 rpm and a similar number of "Newton meters".
How dynamic and economical the car is is not yet reported, but it is known that it “digests” gasoline with octane rating “AI-92” without any problems.
At the heart of the Datsun Cross is a front-wheel drive "bogie", implying a transverse arrangement of the power plant. At the front, the machine is equipped with an independent McPherson-type suspension with a transverse stabilizer, and at the rear - a semi-independent system with a twisting beam.
Disc brakes are used on the front wheels of the crossover, and drum mechanisms (normally with ABS) on the rear wheels. The five-door is equipped with hydraulic power steering.
Datsun Cross is not officially imported to the Russian market, and in Indonesia, as of the beginning of 2018, it is sold at a price of 163 million rupees (~ 690 thousand rubles).
The starting equipment of the car includes: front airbags, a simple audio system, air conditioning, an indicator for not wearing seat belts, LED DRLs, automatic headlight control, ABS, EBD, TCS, power windows, 15-inch alloy wheels and other equipment.
